IAAF World Championships Beijing, China – Provisional Athletes List

Provisional List of Athletes for IAAF World Championships released

It’s just 5 days to go before the biggest show in Athletics “The IAAF World Championships” will commence on August 22 in the capital city of China, Beijing. The nine-day meet to be hosted in Bird’s nest -National Stadium and will conclude on August 30, 2015.

The provisional entry list, as on 15 August for the IAAF World Championships, Beijing 2015 is now available. Official start lists will become available only after the technical meeting, which will be held at on 20 August, 4pm IST.

As of August 15, 1936 athletes including 1043 men and 893 women from 207 countries have registered for the Championships. This year India will be sending a team of 18 athletes who will be competing in 9 different events.

Though the Championships commencing on August 22, Indian athletes will be seen in action from August 23, as there is no event for team India on first day.

Here are the events Indian team will be participating in;

Men-Individual Events;

Discus Throw: India’s Vikas Gowda will be competing in the event where 33 athletes from 20 countries will showcase their talent in qualification round (A) at 7:00am* & (B) at 8:20am* on August 27. Finals for the event will be on August 29, 5:20pm*. Vikas with his personal best of 66.28m & season best of 65.75 will have a strong competition with athletes from Jamaica, Poland, Germany, Austria & Australia.

Shot put: Inderjeet Singh from Haryana will also face 33 athletes from 23 countries in the event on August 23, with qualification round at 7:35am* and Finals on the same day in afternoon session at 5:00pm*. He is a very strong contender as his season as well as personal best of 20.65m is better than athletes from the countries including Germany, Canada, China & South Africa.

20km race walk: Baljinder Singh, Chandan Singh and Gurmeet Singh will be Indian faces for the starting event for team India on August 23, 6:00am*. Where 66 athletes will be competing from 34 countries in the event.

50km race walk: Sandeep Kumar (PB 3:56:22) and Manish Singh (PB 4:02:08) will represent India in the event where 55 athletes from 30 countries will be competing on August 29, early morning at 5:00am*. Japan and China are the strong contenders of the event.

Women-Individual Events;

800m race: Tintu Lukka with her personal best of 1:59.17 and season’s best of 2:01.53 is the one from India to compete in the event against 48 athletes from 32 countries. The event is schedules as Heats (August 26, 7:55am*); Semi-Finals (August 27, 5:35pm*); Finals (August 29, 4:45pm*)

3000m Steeplechase: Lalita Shiva Babar in her pet event with personal as well as season’s best of 9:34:13 will compete for India against 46 athletes from 26 countries. She is expected to finish better, as of current analysis, than athletes from Australia, Canada, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Finland, Ireland, Jamaica, Russia, New Zealand to name a few. The event scheduled as Heats on August 24, 7:15am* and Finals on August 26, 6:30pm*.

20km race walk: Khushbir Kaur (PB 1:31:40, SB 1:33:58) & Sapana (PB & SB 1:35:36) will be seen in action against 54 athletes from 28 Nations on August 28, 6:00am*.

Marathon: O P Jaisha (PB & SB 2:37:29), Lalita Shivaji Babar (PB & SB 2:38:21) & Sundha Singh (PB & SB 2:42:12) from India will face the tough competition against 72 athletes from 38 countries (highest number of competitors against India in any event). You can catch up the team running early morning 5:00am* on August 30, concluding day of the Championships.

Women Team Event;

4x400m relay: Defending Asian Champion and Asian record holding team of 6 athletes will depart from India to compete against 17 countries in the event. The team’s personal best of 3:26.89 and season’s best of 3:33.81 will boost Indians to cheer up for the event. Heats (August 29, 7:45am*); Finals (August 30, 5:35pm*)
