Two more national records broken at National Jr. Athletics Championships

Vijayawada (AFP). Day-2 of Coromandel-33rd National Junior Athletics Championships ended today with two more national record and two new meet record here at the Acharya Nagarjuna University athletics ground in Vijayawada. 

The record-breaking distance of 74.73m (NR, MR) in javelin throw by Vikas Yadav from Maharashtra helped him clinch gold in boys’ U16 category. He broke the national record of 72.05m of Rohit Yadav of UP, that was established last year in Coimbatore. 

In boys’ U18 category, Dipender Dabas of Haryana broke his own national record that he registered in last year’s National Junior Championships in shot put. He bettered his 20.63m record with a new mark of 20.99m to clinch the gold. 

Sapna Kumari of Jharkhand with the timing of 14.09s broke the meet record to win the gold medal in junior girls U20 category while R Nithiya of Tamil Nadu bettered the meet record clocking 14.11s and grabbed the silver medal. Previous meet record of 14.27s was established by G Gayathri of Tamil Nadu in 2009 in Warangal Meet.

In youth girls U18 100m hurdles event, Keralite Aparna Roy broke the meet record on her way to the gold clocking 14.01s. G Gayathri held the previous record 14.02s created in 2008 in Mysore.

Earlier, three new national records were created in various categories here on the opening day of championships.

Youth boys’ U18 walk:

1. Sanjay Kumar (Haryana) 43:05.14, 2. Akshdeep Singh (AFI- Punjab) 43:35.43, 3. Suraj Panwar (Uttarakhand) 43:51.45; 

Junior girls’ U20 10000 walk:

1. Bandana Patel (UP) 52:02.55, 2. Priyanka Patel (UP) 52:16.54, 3. Sonal Sukhwal (Rajasthan) 52:34.18; 

Boys’ U16 hammer throw:
