National Inter-District Junior Athletics Meet
Targeting + 10,000 athletes, 606 Districts
The National Inter-District Junior Athletics Meet (NID-JAM) is an initiative of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI). NID-JAM was launched in 2003, with the aim to create an ecosystem which would identify, nurture and provide a national platform to thousands of promising athletes emerging from hundreds of districts in the nook and corner of the country.
The aim of the NID is to boost athletics at the district level and provide exposure to the raw talent directly at the National level. Interestingly, the District Athletics Associations are free from any financial liability for this meet as the AFI bears the total cost of boarding, lodging and travel expense of all the participants.
Till date, the AFI has conducted 12 successful editions of the NID Junior Athletics Championship, benefiting more than 50,000 district champions and budding athletes in the country. The overwhelming success of the NID has found encouragement from India Inc. and PSUs like BHEL. Recently, Kooh Sports, a leading sports marketing company in the country, has come on board as NID Partners for a period of three years.
The AFI and all its affiliated State Units, along with their Districts Athletics Associations, have been working for more than a decade on strengthening this ambitious plan for Indian athletics. The AFI aims to tap as many as 10,000 junior athletes from 606 existing districts in the state associations into the annual NID Junior Championship. A strong junior nurturing programme like the NID can help the AFI in producing Olympics and Asian champions for India.

How does one participate?
The affiliated district associations in the state units can conduct their own district championship for under-16 and under-14 categories for both boys and girls and send the results to the AFI with proof, media coverage, photographs after proper notification, necessary age verification and following the AFI process
The AFI bears the total cost of boarding, lodging and travel expense of all the participants from the affiliated districts. Thus, the junior athletes are free from financial burden and can focus on the performance while the State Units and District Athletics Associations can concentrate on building the sport in their districts.
A total number of 260 districts participated in the 12th NID-JAM. Interestingly, apart from traditionally strong states like Kerala, Punjab, UP, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh making an impact in the meet, the emerging states which created a splash in the 12th edition were Odisha, Rajasthan, Manipur and Bihar.
