Punjab’s Amanat Kamboj wins U16 girls discus gold with a meet record

Punjab’s teenage thrower Amanat Kamboj broke girls U16 discus throw record on the opening day of the 38th National Junior Athletics Championships that got underway here at the Nehru Stadium.

Amanat’s gold winning performance of 45.18m was better than Navjit Kaur’s 13 years old record of 41.74m.

Punjab’s girls team claimed second gold with a meet record in the girls U14 shot put event through Joy Baidwan. She recorded a throw of 15.19m, which was nearly one meter better than the previous record of 14.29m in the name of Divjot Kaur set last year.

There was a close contest in the girls U20 pole vault event. Both Nidhi and Vanshika Ghanghas of Haryana crossed the bar at 3.65m, but the former was declared winner as she cleared the height of 3.65m in her first attempt.

Girls

U20: 5,000m: Antima Pal (Uttar Pradesh) 16:44.40 secs, Sakshi Jadyal (Maharashtra) 16:54.35 secs, Annu (Haryana) 17:00.00.

Pole vault: Nidhi (Haryana) 3.65m, Vanshika Ghanghas (Haryana) 3.65m, Deepika A (Tamil Nadu) 3.60m.
