The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has chalked out a tentative 2024 domestic calendar keeping in view the global competitions that will feature the Paris Olympic Games in August, Adille Sumariwalla, president of AFI said.

According to the proposed domestic calendar for 2024, the first track and field competition—the 27th National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships will be held in Trivandrum from May 12 to 15.

The 63rd National Inter State Senior Athletics Championships is scheduled to be held from June 27 to 30 in Panchkula, Haryana.

“The domestic competition in Panchkula will act as a final selection for the Paris Olympic Games,” Sumariwalla added.

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games are scheduled to be held from August 1 to 9 in France.

The 2024 World Relays in Bahamas (May 4-5) will be another major international competition as it offers Paris Olympic Games qualification berths.

“We want our core group of athletes to peak at the right time and excel at the international level,” Sumariwalla added.

The international calendar will commence with the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran, Iran. The event will be held from February 21 to 23.

India’s Asian Games champion in shot put, Tajinderpal Singh Toor and long jumper Murali Sreeshankar though have qualified for the World Indoor scheduled to be held in March, but will skip the event to focus on the Olympic Games preparations.
