Entries open for 12th IAU 24 Hour World Championships

Introduction

1. The 12th IAU 24 Hour World Championships and WMA 24 Hour World Championships will be held on 01 to 02 July 2017, at Belfast, Northern Ireland. (http://www.iau-ultramarathon.org/). Athletics Federation of India (AFI) herein has set out the criteria for selecting athletes to represent India at the 12th IAU 24 Hour World Championships and WMA 24 Hour World Championships. This is the first time that India will be represented at the 24-Hour World Championships.

The Course

2. The course is a 1653 meter, 4-meter-wide, exposed concrete surface, loop at Victoria Park, Belfast, Ireland. The race will start at 1200 hours on 01 Jul 17 and end on 02 Jul 17 at 1200 hours, and will be run anti clock wise with no change in direction. Details are given in the General Information Sheet (GIS) on the IAU website (http://www.iau-ultramarathon.org/).

Selection Criteria

3. The AFI (Ultra-running Sub Committee) will be responsible to select the athletes for the 12th IAU 24 Hour World Championships and WMA 24 Hour World Championships. The selection criteria will be based on the demonstrated performance of Athletes during races of 160 km and above or/and 24 Hour and above. There will be no separate team participating in the WMA 24 Hour World Championships, but athletes selected for the IAU 24 Hour World Championships, can participate in their age category in the WMA Championships, as per the guidelines laid down in the General Information Sheet (GIS) issued by IAU.

4. Applications are invited from Indian athletes who meet the following criteria:

(a)          Should be Citizen of India and should not have represented any other country.

(b)          Should be an active Ultra runner who has mandatorily participated in Ultra races during the last one year from 01 Mar 2016 to 28 Feb 2017.

(c)           Should have participated in races involving distances of 160 km and more OR should have run a race of 24 Hours or more during the period of two years from 01 Mar 2015 to 28 Feb 2017

(d)          Participation in races less than 160 km or less than 24 Hour WILL NOT be considered. Participation in events, which is not a race, WILL NOT be considered.

(e)          They should meet the following timings or distances in the given races done during the period from 01 Mar 2015 to 28 Feb 2017.

INDIAN 24 HOUR TEAM (MEN) QUALIFYING STANDARD

(i)    Should have mandatorily participated in an ultra-race between 01 Mar 2016 and 28 Feb 2017
(ii)    Should have achieved any one of the following distances or timings in races during the period between 01 Mar 2015 and 28 Feb 2017.
(iii)    175 km in a 24 – Hour race.
(iv)    252 km in a 36 – Hour race.
(v)    Completed a distance of 160 km in 21 hours 30 minutes, in a race
(vi)    Completed a distance of 200 km in 28 hours 30 minutes, in a race
(vii)    Completed a distance of 220 km in 31 hours 30 minutes, in a race

INDIAN 24 HOUR TEAM (WOMEN) QUALIFYING STANDARD

(i)    Should have mandatorily participated in an ultra-race between 01 Mar 2016 and 28 Feb 2017
(ii)    Should have achieved any one of the following distances or timings in races during the period between 01 Mar 2015 and 28 Feb 2017.
(iii)    135 km in a 24 – Hour race.
(iv)    200 km in a 36 – Hour race.
(v)    Completed a distance of 160 km in 29 hours, in a race
(vi)    Completed a distance of 200 km in 36 hours, in a race
(vii)    Completed a distance of 220 km in 40 hours, in a race

5. Only those athletes meeting ALL the criteria given at para 4 (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) (i) to (vii) above need to send in their application in the format given below (ANNEXURE B) along with this notification latest by 12 April 2017, 1700hrs by email only (printed copy NOT TO BE SENT) to ultramarathon@indianathletics.in

6.  Selected athletes will be intimated by e-mail and result of the selection will be posted on the official website of AFI- www.indianathletics.in

7. Athletes selected will be responsible for their own training in consultation with the Ultra-Running Sub-committee of the AFI.

8. If a selected athlete gets injured during the preparation before the event, and his / her participation in the event is at risk, he / she must inform the Ultra-Running Sub-committee of the AFI by e-mail at the earliest.

9. Selected Athletes- The AFI reserves the right to decide on the number of Athletes that will be selected to participate in the Trail World Championship depending on their performance in the criteria laid down at para 4 (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) (i) to (vii) above. The athletes, who meet the selection criteria laid down in this circular, will be listed in the order of merit. The AFI will bear the cost associated with the representation, as per the existing AFI guidelines, of only the top 02 men and top 02 women athletes in the order of merit. Other athletes who meet the selection criteria, up to the total maximum of number permitted by the organizer’s (09 men and 09 women), would need to bear all cost associated with their representation.
