The Indian ultra-running team is to participate in the 2017 Trail World Championships at Italy on 10 June 2017 and the 24 Hour World Championships at Northern Ireland, UK on 01 and 02 July 2017.
The AFI joined the International Association of Ultrarunners as its 83rd member in February this year. This association with the AFI allows the Indian Ultrarunners to participate at IAU organised World Championships.
Mr Adille Sumariwalla, President AFI was determined to ensure that the Indian Ultrarunners participate at these events and get all the necessary support. In response, NEB Sports Entertainment Pvt Ltd, Bangalore has come forward to make this possible.
“I tapped all probable avenues to make this happen and NEB Sports agreed to support the athletes who will make a history by representing India for the first time at the IAU Ultra-running World Championships. On behalf of AFI, I would like to thank NEB Sports for supporting Indian athletes”, said AFI President.
Mr Nagaraj Adiga, Managing Director, NEB Sports Entertainment Pvt Ltd is a running enthusiast himself. He has successfully organised the Shriram Properties Bengaluru Marathon, and IDBI Federal Life Insurance New Delhi Marathon and responsible for organizing the 12 Hours / 24 Hours and 36 Hours Stadium runs in the country. The sponsorship by NEB sports for these two World Championships is a big boost for the sport of Ultra-running in India.
