AFI releases Competition Calendar for 2017-18

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) announced its Competition Calendar for the year 2017-18 on Thursday, 05 January 2017. The high-level technical committee of AFI also marked various National Championships included in the calendar as qualifying competitions for International Events.

The 2017 season will begin with National Race Walking Championships to be held on February 18-19, 2017 in Delhi. The Delhi event will also serve as selection trials for the Asian Race Walking Championship to be held at Nomi Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan on March 19,2017.

AdilleSumariwalla, President- AFI, said, “We have a busy season this year with as many as 16 national-level championships. The highlight of our activities this year is the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships which will be held in Ranchi, Jharkhand from June 1-4, 2017. It will be an honour for us to host athletes from 45 Asian countries and put Ranchi on the map of Asian Athletics Circuit. The preparations for the event are already on track.”

The Indian athletics team for Asian Championship, Ranchi will be selected on the basis of athletes’ performances in the Federation Cup National Senior Championships to be held in Delhi from May 11-14, 2017.

In 2017, the Indian athletics team will also participate in the IAAF World Championships to be held in Olympic Stadium in London from August 4-13, 2017. The Indian team for the World Championships will be selected from National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship to be heldat Guntur, Andhra Pradesh from July 12-15, 2017 on a newly laid athletics track.

The Indian Men and Women 4×400 Relay teams will participate in the IAAF World Relays to be held in Nassau, Bahamas from April 22-23, 2017.

For Indian Youth (U18) athletics team, IAAF World U18 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya from July 12-16, 2017 presents an opportunity to shine on the big stage. The team for the Youth Worlds will be selected from National Youth Athletics Championships to be organised in Hyderabad from April 21-23, 2017.
