AFI Invites Applications For Election of the IAAF Athletes’ Commission

New Delhi, May 3, 2017 : The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) is inviting applications from Athletes interested in contesting the Election of the IAAF Athletes’ Commission. The elections for six members of the IAAF Athletes’ Commission will be taking place during the London 2017, IAAF World Championships.

The IAAF Athletes’ Commission is currently made up of 19 members, 12 of whom are elected by their peers and seven appointed by the IAAF Council.

The mandated structure of the Commission is as follows:

  • Six Members elected for a four-year term during the Beijing 2015 IAAF World Championships, whose mandate ends on 31 December 2019.
  • Seven Members appointed by the IAAF Council in November 2015, whose mandate ends on 31 December 2019.
  • Six Members, elected for a four-year term during the Moscow 2013 IAAF World Championships, whose mandate ends on 31 December 2017.

The AFI may nominate one athlete for election. The elections will be for six Commission member positions, each for a four-year term commencing on 1 January 2018.

Please read the Procedure for Election of Athletes’ Commission Members included in Appendix A to ensure that any nominated athlete fulfills the specified criteria and for details regarding the nomination and election process.

The Candidature Application Form (Appendix B) must be completed and returned to the AFI at indianathletics@gmail by no later than midnight IST on 10 May 2017.
